Mia Love’s innovative attitude and dynamic presence are deeply rooted from her experience in the American dream. Her parents fled Haiti to escape from political corruption taking with them the powerful hope that comes from the possibility of freedom. Growing up in Connecticut, Mia recalls both parents working hard to earn a living, her father at times taking on second jobs cleaning toilets to pay for school for their three children. Mia recognized from a young age the power of sacrifice and the need for enduring values in the community. On the day of Mia’s college orientation, her father said something to her that would become the ethos for her life: "Mia, your mother and I never took a handout. You will not be a burden to society. You will give back."
This statement lit a fire under Mia as she went through her education and work experience. Her desire was much more than just getting a diploma from the University of Hartford or earning a paycheck. Her path has always been one with drive and purpose as she helped those around her to understand the power of sacrifice. Mia continued to work as her parents had before her, lifting and serving those around her. As she solidified her faith, her dynamic outlook led her to find her husband Jason as well as embracing the journey of moving to Utah. With concerns of the rising generation- her own children- Mia saw the need for leadership in her community and thinking back to her father’s advice decided to take a stand and serve for two terms on the city council of Saratoga Springs, one of Utah’s fastest growing cities. As City Councilwoman and eventually Mayor, Mia led the city through a period of 1700% population growth in a decade with her passion and excitement for change. Under her leadership, the city was able to successfully navigate the drastic transition from agricultural fields to a booming residential community. With taxes to implement and a booming community to support, Mia made it possible for people to be inspired to experience the American dream.
Congresswoman Love has taken a stand in Washington as she has raised Utah’s voice in the House of Representatives. She is a tireless advocate of the need for personal accountability and the possibilities that come to every citizen when power remains in the hands of the people.
